In the last Ramadan, I started working on selecting verses from the Qur’an in order to compile a small booklet. My goal was to provide just a glimpse of the Qur’an – last revelation of God to mankind. No doubt this is an amazing and important book that everyone, Muslims or non-Muslims, should be reading and reflecting upon.
However, most difficult thing for me, perhaps would be the same for anyone taking up this task, was selecting the verses, specially limiting to only 40.
I decided to select only 40 verses due to the number having some significance in Islamic texts and literature. I wanted to compile something similar to “40 Hadiths of Imam Nawawi”, a very popular and blessed collection on prophetic traditions. However, limiting to only 40 verses turned out to be extremely more difficult than I initially anticipated.

…every time I reviewed I felt tempted to swap one verse with another and make some sort of changes in the compilation. After doing that for a number of times, I realized I will never be able to make it perfect the way I want, unless I put every verse of the Qur’an in the exact order in which found there…

It took me well over three months to finalize the 40 verses and categorize them. Alhamdulillah, Allah allowed me to complete my first book. I hope He will accept it from me, benefit me and benefit others.
